The arc这条弧
Pluralism, as a civilizational achievement, is barely two centuries old. The default of every society before the modern era was that there was one true religion, one true legal code, one true cosmology. The slow concession that a society can host many — and run better, not worse, for the multiplicity — is the most important political invention of the modern era. Multi-religious cities. Multi-currency reserves. Multi-stack software. The pattern repeats.
The physical multiverse is the same move applied to reality itself. There are at least four mature multiverse hypotheses in contemporary physics: Many Worlds (Everett), Eternal Inflation (Linde, Vilenkin), the String Landscape (Susskind), and the Mathematical Universe (Tegmark). None is yet falsifiable in the strict Popperian sense; all are taken seriously by the people who do the math. What is being claimed is not that our universe is one of many in some literary sense, but that the deepest equations of physics — quantum mechanics, inflation, string theory — make more sense if there are many.
The civilizational arc of pluralism and the cosmological arc of the multiverse meet at one philosophical point: the abandonment of monism. Reality is not one. Truth is not one. And the procedures by which we discover what is — scientific, ethical, aesthetic — are not one. The horizon is to live well in that abundance.

物理意义上的多元宇宙，是把同一思路应用到现实本身。当代物理学中至少有四种成熟的多元宇宙假说：多世界（埃弗雷特）、永恒暴胀（林德、维伦金）、弦景观（萨斯坎德）、数学宇宙（泰格马克）。任何一种都尚未在严格波普尔意义上可证伪；但做数学的人都认真对待。他们主张的不是文学意义上的"很多宇宙之一"，而是：量子力学、暴胀、弦论的最深方程，在存在多个宇宙时反而更自洽。
文明的多元化之弧，与宇宙学的多元宇宙之弧，相会于同一哲学拐点：放弃一元论。实在不是单数，真理不是单数，乃至我们发现"是什么"的程序——科学、伦理、美学——也不是单数。"现实维度"的远景，便是学会在这种丰盛中活得好。
