Globalization compressed a planet that took our ancestors ten thousand years to walk across into a network that moves goods, capital, and signals around its circumference in hours. The supply chain became the deepest fact about modern life. A microchip in Shenzhen, a vaccine in Pune, a wheat shipment from Odessa — each is unintelligible without the other.
The next move, on the present trajectory, is off-planet. The interstellar horizon is not yet a budget line item — it is the asymptote of three converging curves: launch cost (down roughly two orders of magnitude in two decades), in-space manufacturing (now operationally tested), and the political logic that a single planet is a single point of failure for a thinking species. Kardashev's scale of civilizational energy use puts Earth somewhere around Type 0.72 today; reaching Type I (planetary), then Type II (stellar), then Type III (galactic) is the architecture of the spatial horizon.
The framing implicit in the table is restrained on purpose. Globalization is not the goal — it is the prelude. A globalized species learns to coordinate at one scale so that it has the institutional muscle to coordinate at the next.
